From already producing a full EP to touring The UK and Germany this Autumn, post-hardcore band We Are H are already making an impact in the music scene. We got the chance to talk to Jan, Ken and Fabian from We Are H about their EP ‘Through Heights And Depths I Told You Behold The Stars Will Follow’ and their upcoming tour!
Hey guys! Welcome to Euphoria Of Breakdown, could you please introduce yourself and your role in the band to our viewers?
Jan: I play guitar.
Ken: I play bass and do the vocals.
Fabian: Hey, I play drums and serve brunch.
You recently released your debut EP ‘Through Heights and Depths I Told You Behold the Stars Will Follow’. Which tracks are you most proud of and why?
Fabian: Since it is recorded as a one track EP: I guess I’m proud of this one song… Just kidding. That’s hard to tell. Maybe DEPTHS would be that song because it includes many facets. It’s heavy, weird and straight and quite touching after all.
Jan: For me it’s BEHOLD . A straight forward pop song with heavy and aggressive moments.
Ken: I love playing DEPTHS live. It’s so chaotic, disharmonic and heavy. A song to lose it. But then there are songs like I TOLD YOU and STARS WILL FOLLOW who create this big atmosphere and bring you in another world while playing it. The whole EP is supposed to be heard as one track with all the ups and downs, all the crazy and the harmonic parts. Also our live set is supposed to be seen as one piece. Some people compare it rather to a stage play because we try to keep the atmosphere and tension throughout the whole gig.
Being a new band on the scene, did you face any challenges with recording your debut EP?
Fabian: We did the recording at a friend’s studio. That was very good for having a nice atmosphere and a more relaxed approach to recording. It took quite some time however to get the final EP released because recording was a process rather over months than days with many sessions adding bit per bit.
The title itself is made up of all the song names on the EP, where did this idea come from?
Fabian: The whole EP is a journey, condensed in the single sentence the song names result in. So we decided to simply title the whole thing with a description of the journey.
Jan: Nevertheless this not new at all. The band The Chariot did this long ago.
‘I Told You’ is one of the deeper, stronger emotional tracks on the EP, what was the inspiration behind the lyrics?
Fabian & Jan: We pass on to Ken.
Ken: You are always surrounded by people or things you’ll better keep your hands off before they harm you. This song just gives the advice to not play with “lions”.
To me a very important line is the last one: “I’d rather do anything than cry myself to sleep”. If you have any goals in your life or problems to solve: get your ass up and do something. Even if it takes longer than primary thought. There is no chance to accomplish something with getting mad, crying or complaining about it.
There are videos online of you guys performing a track called ‘Narkophobie’, are there plans of producing and releasing this anytime soon?
Fabian: We’re constantly writing new stuff for our first full length album which will be recorded next year. Narkophobie will be part of it.
Ken: …But maybe we name it different. Or change some parts. Or add vocals. But it’s definitely part of it with a lot of other crazy new stuff. So stay tuned!
You have a few of shows in both Germany and the UK soon, what made you want to come and do shows in the UK as well as Germany?
Fabian: I think a was a fix idea of Ken that he always wanted to tour the UK. So why not? It’s great to play in a foreign country, especially the UK. We can take our music abroad and see how our music is received there. Besides having a great road trip. We started planning and it looks very promising right now!
Jan: In Germany you often have to “pay to play”. The UK offers a good music scene and is interested to see fresh new bands; and here we are!
Where would you most like to tour if given the opportunity and why?
Jan: To be on tour is always nice. It doesn’t matter where. But I think Scandinavia, Canada or Asia would be interesting to tour because of the people and the landscapes.
Ken: I’d love to do Vans Warped Tour in America once. This would be fun!
If you could describe your music to new listeners using only lines from your songs, how would you describe it?
Ken: We only get as high as possible.
Fabian: It’s nice here on the other side.
Jan: I told you not to play with the lions.
